1/6/2010 Port of Liverpool Building hosts architecture festival launch

The stunning, refurbished atrium of the Grade II* listed Port of Liverpool Building played host to the launch of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) North West Architecture Festival 2010 on Tuesday 1st June.

Designed as a celebration of the outstanding architecture to be found in the North West, the festival will also highlight the release of the RIBA’s ‘350 Awards’ shortlist - an award given to projects under £350,000; which will include a ‘People’s Choice Award.’

The festival will include a travelling exhibition called ‘Architruck’, guided walking tours showcasing some of the best architecture in the region and guest lecturers from some of the country’s greatest structural designers.

Speaking at the event, Ann Lodge, joint chief executive at Downing, said: “As a developer we appreciate just how important inspiring and sustainable architecture is in creating places people want to work and live in.

“We can’t think of a better location to launch this festival - the Port of Liverpool Building is a place of business, as beautiful and prestigious today as it was when the builders started on site in 1904. We’re looking forward to a lively celebration of the region’s architectural prowess.”
