18/6/2010 Downing scoops awards hat trick

George Downing was named Property Personality of the Year in one of a hat trick of awards for the company at the prestigious Insider Property Awards NW 2010.
George was recognised for his commitment to Liverpool over the last decade, going from developing student living to bigger and better commercial projects, culminating in him becoming the city’s largest single landlord.
Downing was also awarded Best Commercial Workplace for The Capital and Deal of the Year for the landmark UK Borders Agency letting at the building.
The developer has progressed a £15 million refurbishment programme at The Capital and the works resulted in Downing securing Liverpool’s largest ever commercial letting with the UK Borders Agency.
Downing’s Port of Liverpool building was also shortlisted in the Best Commercial Workplace category.
The judges’ citation read: “Downing has clearly thought very seriously about how to best use the space and bring in amenities. After buying the building at the peak of the market, Downing stuck to its guns and invested £15m in creating a workplace that has become a blue-chip address in the city.
“Downing won the day for the deal that dominated Liverpool in 2009. Make no mistake, this was brave stuff from the word go, when Downing outbid 17 big investors to buy the Capital it invested heavily in refurbishing and reaped the rewards in landing a major occupier. Downing was exposed and came through, as it has so often before.”
