Construction firm George Downing Construction (GDC) has started work on the £35 million Belgrade Plaza Coventry leisure and living complex.
The scheme for its parent company, the property development group Downing, will comprise of 600 student bedrooms, 42 residential apartments and 12,000 sq. ft of retail and office space.
The 20-storey building, designed by architects Simpson Haugh & Partners and is situated in the heart of Coventry city centre on Upper Well Street, next to the Grade II listed Belgrade Theatre.
“It’s a substantial mixed use scheme in a very good location in Coventry. It’s also one of the largest projects we have in the portfolio of student accommodation schemes we are bringing to the market across England and Scotland for next year.
“This accommodation will provide a safe and spacious living environment, supplemented with high-quality retail and leisure units. Our aim is to create a brand new community that will enable residents benefit from a high-standard of living space, shopping and entertainment.”
