Downing has submitted plans for a major new student accommodation and commercial development in Wandsworth, South London, SW18.
The plans include transforming a 5,739 sqm brownfield site at 2 Armoury Way into a vibrant student living space, comprising two 10-storey towers with the capacity to house up to 434 students.
Under the terms of the agreement, 35% of the accommodation will be offered at affordable rates, while 51% of the rooms will be allocated to a university under a Nomination Agreement.
The scheme will offer 258 student beds in Block A and 176 in Block B, as well as nine new commercial units for businesses and over 12,000 sqft of new Class E light industrial space. The project will be car free and feature cycling facilities, a gym, internal amenity spaces and generous publicly accessible and landscaped areas for the student residents, business tenants and the public to enjoy.
The site is situated just a four-minute walk from Wandsworth Town Train Station and is accessible via multiple bus routes. This Zone 2 site is in a prime location for both students and businesses alike.
The location is part of the “Gasholder Site, Armoury Way” area, a key component of Wandsworth’s recently adopted Local Plan, which has been designated as ideal for mixed-use redevelopment.
In line with Downing’s commitment to sustainability, 2 Armoury Way will aim to achieve a BREEAM Outstanding rating for the student accommodation. The build will incorporate innovative energy-saving measures, sustainable materials and enhanced green spaces to promote environmental responsibility.
