Luxury Aberdeen scheme gets the green light from planners

Downing has received planning approval for a luxury £30 million student accommodation development in Aberdeen.

The scheme, designed by architects Fletcher Joseph Associates, will accommodate 374 student bedrooms in the heart of the city centre. The  best in class accommodation will include extensive communal facilities including a gym, cinema, lounge and study rooms

Situated on John Street, the building for luxury student accommodation in Aberdeen will link the surrounding Woolmanhill area to the city centre streets.

“We’re very pleased to have formally received planning approval for this exciting scheme. The development represents a substantial investment and reinforces Downing’s commitment to strengthening its presence in Scotland.

“We’re delighted to be working alongside architects Fletcher Joseph Associates on this scheme, which will help to rejuvenate the surrounding area and provide students with first-class accommodation.”

The property will form a u-shape and step down in height towards the rear of the site, revealing a communal courtyard and providing amenity space, while also respecting neighbouring properties.

“We are delighted for the opportunity to work with Downing to regenerate this vacant site and further develop the high quality brand of student accommodation they have a recognised reputation for.

“We now look forward to the successful delivery of the planning consent and the distinctive contribution this will make to the Aberdeen cityscape”.

The development is due to complete in time for the 2018 academic year.
