We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Data and BI Manager to join our team at our recently refurbished, modern Head Office in Liverpool City Centre. Responsible for providing Downing with data, analysis and insight (BI) to enable business decision making and drive business performance, including building technologies, capacity and skill sets to manage Downing and Aboria data assets, implement agreed data / BI technologies and provide BI services to colleagues and external stakeholders.

Downing are a family-owned, award-winning leading developer, owner, and operator of bespoke, luxury student accommodation, residential and commercial properties across the UK. We have been operating for over 35 years and currently have 14 operational student accommodation schemes in 10 major cities, with an impressive £1.6bn worth of developments in the pipeline.

Established in 2024, Aboria Capital builds on Downing’s proven 35-year track record, combining a highly experienced European investment management team with the expertise that has driven Downing’s success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Downing and Aboria leadership team to utilise data in support of growth objectives, unlocking the value of our data assets to provide actionable insight through Business Intelligence (BI) and incorporating data creativity and commercial awareness.
  • Developing and implementing plans to provide data and BI services to Downing and Aboria.
  • Designing and implementing data technologies and architectures, enabling the data team to meet business requirements for bespoke data analysis and BI, including building technologies, processes and a pool of talent capable of meeting business demand.
  • Optimising data management within Downing and Aboria. Using a mixture of on-premise and cloud applications, improving access, documentation and modelling of data.
  • Ensure timely and complete project delivery of data and BI requirements, playing a key role in business-wide BI projects.
  • Establish strong data governance and data management processes which protect our customers and support our business model.
  • Build and maintain a strong control environment and processes to protect our customers and our data assets, including change control, data models, data definitions, security, access, backup and policy documents.
  • Working collaboratively and effectively with other members of the Technology Team.
  • Establish and develop a Data and BI team. Responsible for recruitment, development and performance management of a team of data and BI specialists, helping the business to grow and control its diverse activities.
  • Help colleagues adopt and use BI tools and data effectively by supporting, training and influencing them.
  • Remove ambiguity and explain technical data problems in a way that business leaders can understand.
  • Working with data and BI vendors to speed up delivery and access specialist skillsets.
  • Provide hands-on data and BI delivery.
  • Championing the improvement in data quality over time, including the reporting of data accuracy, completeness and existence metrics.
  • Managing data and BI service delivery, implementing agreed improvements over time and reporting upon the services delivered.
  • Managing demand and relationships with senior internal stakeholders.

Key Requirements:

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Expert in Microsoft data and BI technology stack e.g. Azure (Pipelines, Synapse Analytics, Data Lake and SQL) and Power BI (Premium and Embedded).
  • Experience with Business Central, Kinetic, MRI, HubSpot or other SaaS ERP / CRM systems.
  • BI project expertise is essential.
  • Able to design and build data and BI architectures in phases from a blank canvas.
  • Ability to turn colleagues reporting requirements into a reality.
  • Production of external partner reporting experience.
  • Experience of Construction, Student or Property letting sectors would be an advantage.

Skills:

  • Able to facilitate and capture data and report requirements from colleagues and deliver automated solutions.
  • Experience driving change through the use of data and insight.
  • Providing insightful analysis to help business leaders make better decisions.
  • Experience of managing data vendors
